Come touch the ice of Snæfellsjökull glacier and be inspired!

The Hike

This tour is the perfect choice for beginner to intermediate hikers that want to feel the glacier. Not only does this give you a taste of Icelandic mountain life but it also provides countless opportunities for fun and photographs. We begin the tour with a short 20 minute hike through the glacier shaped landscape and volcanic morain up to the hard ice of the glacier itself. With an experienced glacial guide we take a short hike around the hard ice, witnessing the water channels winding their way through the ice and the crevasses where the ice is moving at its fastest. A beautiful beginner experience to a mountain glacier. Earlier in the season, there may still be snow on the glacier, where less crevasses and hard ice is exposed. During conditions of more snow then we will put on the rope earlier and get a taste of alpine hiking instead of spending time on hard ice.

The Mountain

We drive close to the glacier and then hike for around 20 minutes across an incredible landscape that has been shaped by the glacier and volcano. When we reach the glacier we put on our crampons and get out our ice axes to explore the incredible shapes of the carved ice. If we are feeling fit then maybe we will attach ourselves to a rope explore a bit further up onto the ice and snow, getting a close up view of the deep crevasses of the glacier. As well as getting a taste of Icelandic mountain life, you will be rewarded with incredible views over the Snæfellsnes peninsula and Atlantic Ocean.
